ABCares

On July 31st, 2015 Associated Builders & Contractors of Southeast Texas sponsored a vocational skills initiative project for The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. A special thank you goes to Patty George of ISC Constructors, LLC, for volunteering her time to help with the project, as well as her bringing her niece along, Caylin Cortinas, who was our junior volunteer for the day. Kimberly Bernard, ABC’s Interim President, and Courtney Johnson, ABC’s School-To-Work Coordinator, had the students separate into teams, and each group had to gather the correct number of materials per their instructions, as well as read a blueprint on how to construct the “PVC Houses” (they were all Pipefitters for the day). The children learned about teamwork, following instructions and what all it takes to work safe in the petro-chemical industry; they were encouraged to consider a career in construction.

The day was rounded out with ABC providing Domino’s Pizza for their lunch. It was a great experience and ABC looks forward to being a part of the Club’s Summer Program each year.

ABCares participates in “Mid-County Kindness”

Associated Builders & Contractors of Southeast Texas, through its volunteer program (“ABCares”), participated in “Mid-County Kindness” on Sunday, October 5th, wherein hundreds of volunteers from Port Neches and Nederland showed up for "Mid-County Kindness" in order to aid Hurricane Ike survivors in Bridge City.  Organizers called on football rivals from both these cities to wear red and show up in teams to help residents struggling in the storm’s aftermath (the event was a follow-up to Saturday night's "Mid-County Madness").  Although the event was organized and made up of mostly mid-county residents and organizations, others from across the Golden Triangle volunteered their time as well. The goal of removing debris, assisting with home repairs, clearing trees, as well as feeding many of the residents and workers throughout the day, drew individuals, organizations, businesses and churches from all over Southeast Texas, some even traveling from other states.  A few of ABC’s contractor members set-up their BBQ pits in front of Bridge City High School and cooked links and boudain; the volunteers then delivered the food with bottled water to the residents’ homes.
